Feyenoord started the new season with a victory. During PEC Zwolle, Dick Advocaat’s team did not play a great match, but it was won 0-2. Steven Berghuis was responsible for both goals. Dick Advocaat, who extended his unbeaten streak as Feyenoord’s coach to fifteen games, became the oldest coach in the history of the Eredivisie on Saturday. At 72 years and 351 days, he dethrones former record holder Foppe de Haan (72 years and 317 days).

Feyenoord barely came close to the enemy penalty area in the first half, but took a 0-1 lead at halftime. In the fifth minute, Berghuis becomes the first player to score an Eredivisie goal on the new natural grass surface of PEC. The club’s top scorer from Feyenoord from last season may steam in midfield, try at a long distance and shoot a low shot in the left corner. Feyenoord had to wait until the penultimate minute of the first half for the second serious chance: goalkeeper Michael Zetterer turned a shot from Nicolai Jörgensen into the short corner.

Meanwhile, PEC owned the ball, without being really dangerous. Feyenoord, with newcomers Mark Diemers and Bryan Linssen at the base, gave away a lot of space after the good opening phase. PEC sometimes played good football, but could not cause the defense in Rotterdam. After the break, the picture of the match was similar: PEC owned the ball, but Feyenoord succeeded. Halfway through the second half, Bas Nijhuis awarded a penalty kick to Feyenoord after contact between Thomas Lam and Orkun Kökcü, after which Berghuis hit hard from eleven meters in the left corner.

Thirteen minutes before the end, PEC also wanted a penalty goal, but this time Nijhuis did not point to the spot. This relates to contact between Lutsharel Geertruida and Reza Ghoochannejhad. Bram from Poland protests strongly and receives a yellow card. On the other hand, Berghuis got the chance to complete a hat-trick through a header, while he still ran into Zetterer in injury time. Thanks to the victory, Feyenoord is ahead in the Eredivisie next to sc Heerenveen.
