Tottenham Hotspur won on Saturday in a tumultuous game against Brighton & Hove Albion: 2-1. Managers Cristian Stellini and Roberto De Zerbi were sent off after the break after a disallowed goal from Brighton. Heung-min Son became the first Asian player ever to reach the 100 goal mark in the Premier League and Harry Kane was the match winner. With the home win, Tottenham remains in the wake of number four Manchester United.

Son gave Tottenham the perfect start at home. The agile attacker pulled in from the left in the tenth minute, only to blast the ball hard into the top corner: 1-0. His guard Joël Veltman could not change that either. Kaoru Mitoma seemed to quickly equalize for Brighton, but because the ball landed on his arm, the VAR advised to cancel the goal. Ten minutes before the break, the 1-1 still appeared on the scoreboard at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium: center defender Lewis Dunk, who had come along, hit the ball hard from a corner kick.

Brighton even seemed to take the lead after the break. A shot from Danny Welbeck disappeared through Alexis Mac Allister into the goal. However, the VAR found hands of the latter, so that the goal was crossed out. This led to a big argument between the managers Stellini and De Zerbi. Both coaches, who almost got into a fight before shaking hands, were sent off with a red card. Stellini is said to have said that De Zerbi at Brighton only benefits from the work of predecessor Graham Potter, after which the two Italians got into a fight and had to go to the stands.

The three points in the heated game eventually ended up with Tottenham. Harry Kane was the match winner with a deflected shot in the final phase, partly thanks to good preparatory work by Son on the flank Julio Enciso came in for Veltman and eight minutes of injury time were added. Tottenham, however, held on and takes very important points in the battle for a ticket to the group stage of the Champions League. Brighton licks the wounds and has to make do with seventh place for the time being.
