Feyenoord won the second exhibition game of the day with Werder Bremen on Saturday. Thanks to goals from Jens Toornstra and Orkun Kökçü it became 2-1. The blemish on the victory was the failure of Luis Sinisterra, who sustained an ankle injury and could no longer support on his foot. It was the last showdown for Feyenoord before the first game against FC Drita in the second heat of the Europa Conference League on Thursday. Earlier on Saturday, Feyenoord and Werder already played a friendly match against each other, in which mainly reserve players played. That game ended in a 3-3 draw.

The brand new addition Alireza Jahanbakhsh was sitting in the stands in De Kuip and saw Feyenoord take the lead early on. After six minutes, Marcos Senesi steamed up the left flank, before appreciating a sprint action by Toornstra. Toornstra slipped the ball face to face with keeper Stefanos Kapino. Halfway through the first half, Bryan Linssen almost made it 2-0: the attacker combined nicely with Guus Til just outside the penalty area and shot the ball with the outside of the foot against the crossbar.

Shortly after the missed opportunity, Werder tied the score. Fer slipped into possession and lost the ball to Leonardo Bittencourt, who gratefully took advantage and enabled Joshua Sargent to hit the top left corner: 1-1. Feyenoord then looked for the lead again and came close via Leroy Fer, whose header was tapped out of the corner by Kapino. The pass came from Orkun Kökçü, the new wearer of number 10 after the much-discussed departure of Steven Berghuis. The attacker who left for Ajax was called a ‘cancer Jew’ by the Feyenoord supporters in chants.

After an hour Feyenoord got a penalty, when Tyrell Malacia was floored after a combination with Til. Kökçü scored the penalty well: 2-1. Feyenoord striker Robert Bozeník then completed a pass from Til over, while Justin Bijlow intervened alertly on the other side of the breakthrough Oscar Schönfelder. In stoppage time, the Feyenoord goalkeeper made a good save on a shot from close range by Ömer Toprak, who was offside.
