England coach Gareth Southgate has announced his 23-man squad for the upcoming international match. AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori is with the England national team for the first time since 2019. Tammy Abraham has not received an invitation, while AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho argued for a return of the striker earlier this month.

The 23-year-old Abraham made the switch from Chelsea to AS Roma for 40 million euros last summer. In Italy he can call himself the first striker under Mourinho. In his first six league games, Abraham scored two goals. That is not enough for a return to the national team. “I’m trying to create a monster of an attacker for Southgate,” the Portuguese coach said two weeks ago during a press conference about the six-time international. “If he doesn’t have good eyesight and doesn’t call him up for the national team, I would recommend Tammy to switch countries. He deserves more caps to his name.” Southgate favors Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur) and Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) on the attacking point.

Jadon Sancho has also received an invitation from the national coach. The winger has been playing for Manchester United since last summer, but has yet to make his mark. He has not been involved in a single goal so far. Harry Maguire and Trent Alexander-Arnold are injured and are therefore missing from the selection. England will play twice in the coming international period as part of the World Cup qualifiers. The away game against Andorra is scheduled for Saturday 9 October, followed by the home game against Hungary three days later. England lead Group I unbeaten with sixteen points from six matches.
