Ezri Konsa will start for England on Saturday evening, it is reported The Athletic to report. The Aston Villa defender will take the place of the suspended Marc Guéhi against Switzerland.

Guéhi picked up his second yellow card of the tournament after just three minutes in the round of 16 against Slovakia, meaning that national coach Gareth Southgate knew early on that he had to change his line-up for the quarter-final against Switzerland.

Konsa only played one match for this European Championship the Three Lions. In extra time of the match against the Slovaks, the man-marker came on for Jude Bellingham at the start of the second half of extra time.

With Konsa in their ranks, England held on and took a 2-1 lead. Konsa has mainly played at right back for Aston Villa this season, but is a natural centre back and therefore a logical replacement for Guéhi.

Apart from the forced substitution in the heart of defence, it looks like Southgate will stick with the names that struggled to deal with Slovakia.

In that case, Jordan Pickford will be in goal and the defence will be formed by Kyle Walker, John Stones, Konsa and Kieran Trippier. Kobbie Mainoo and Declan Rice are the designated people to provide Bellingham with cover. Striker Harry Kane seems to be joined up front by Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden.

Five England players are on edge and will miss the semi-final against the Netherlands or Turkey if they receive a yellow card and England wins against Switzerland. They are Bellingham, Mainoo, Trippier, Foden and Conor Gallagher.

Switzerland also has five players on the alert, and they are not the least: Remo Freuler, Dan Ndoye, Ricardo Rodríguez, Vincent Sierro and Granit Xhaka.

Probable England line-up: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Konsa, Trippier; Mainoo, Bellingham, Rice; Saka, Kane, Foden.
