Brian Brobbey made a disappointing Bundesliga debut at RB Leipzig on Sunday afternoon. The striker who came over from Ajax, who was brought in by trainer Jesse Marsch ten minutes before the end, went down with 1-0 at 1. FSV Mainz 05. It was not the official debut for Brobbey, as the striker also came into action last Friday in the battle for the DFB Pokal against SV Sandhausen (0-4 win).

Brobbey made his appearance in the Hardtwald Stadium against Sandhausen after 68 minutes as a replacement for André Silva. However, the attacker who came over from Ajax on a free transfer did not score and he did not succeed this time either. Leipzig had been warned in advance, as the team also lost against Mainz last season. At the time, it marked the start of a crazy turnaround in the second half of the season, in which even more points (30) were scored than Leipzig (32). Marsch was unable to rely on Marcel Halstenberg, Marcelo Saracchi and Benjamin Henrichs at the start of the season.

The first big chance of the game came from Jae-sung Lee, who saw his falling header hit the left post. After just under fifteen minutes of play, it was a hit for the home team, which brutally took the lead via Moussa Niakhaté. For the attacker, it was already his fourth goal against RB Leipzig, which is therefore the defender’s favorite opponent. Mainz appeared surprisingly fresh and even had a slight advantage in the first company.

In the second half, Leipzig showed significantly better and it even regularly appeared dangerous in front of Robin Zentner’s goal. However, the latter proved to be an obstacle several times and, among other things, had a good save on a bet by Amadou Haidara. The midfielder searched for the roof of the goal from close range with a hard shot, but found Mainz’s goalie in his way. Nordi Mukiele saw an attempt narrowly stopped by Alexander Hack. Marsch then brought in Brobbey, among others, but could not prevent a painful defeat.
