Oliver McBurnie has been discredited in England after images surfaced online showing him attacking a man on the street. The images show that the Sheffield United striker is approached by a passerby and responds by taking his phone, throwing it on the floor and then having a scuffle. The incident is widely reported in the British media. Sheffield has announced through an official statement that it is aware of the images. The club is conducting an investigation, reports the Daily Mail.

The images, which are currently crossing the internet, show someone shouting ‘Oli McBurni’. The attacker of Premier League relegated Sheffield then turns and seeks confrontation, after which he throws the cell phone on the ground and physically attacks the person in question off screen. As the fight continues off screen, one of the bystanders shouts that it would be wise to leave. “Sheffield United officials are aware of the video circulating on social media and are investigating the incident,” his employer said in a response on Monday.

It is not the first time that McBurnie has been discredited for his off-line behavior. Last July, he was fined € 33,000 by the British police for drunk driving and a 16-month driving ban. In 2020, the striker was reprimanded by the FA after making an obscene gesture towards Cardiff City supporters while sitting among the supporters of his then club Swansea City. Matches between Cardiff and Swansea are known as the South Wales Derby and usually evoke a lot of emotion.

McBurnie is currently recovering from a foot injury and hopes to go to the European Championship with Scotland next summer. The attacker has played sixteen games with the national team so far. He was one of the players to cash in a penalty kick in the all-important play-offs against Serbia on the way to the final tournament. Scotland will play two friendly matches in the run-up to the European Championship, including against the Netherlands on June 2. Next, the team of national coach Steve Clarke will face arch-rival England on June 18.
