Seville seems to be able to forget the national title in Spain. The number four of LaLiga has reported increasingly emphatically at the front in recent weeks, thanks to a winning streak of five games, but that march came to an end against Athletic Club on Monday evening. Iñaki Williams scored the only goal in the final minute: 0-1. Sevilla is now six points behind leader Atlético Madrid. Luuk de Jong came in in minute 68; Karim Rekik stayed on the sofa.

De Jong made his entrance at Sevilla halfway through the second half, together with Joan Jordan. The home team hoped for a new impulse, because the game was not sparkling at that stage. Although Ivan Rakitic fired an imminent long shot just before the double substitution, Sevilla was unable to turn the dominance of the ball into serious chances in the opening phase of the second half. In the first company, Julen Lopetegui’s team had become dangerous several times. Goalkeeper Unai Simón had to go to the grass in minute 24 for a reflex after a hard header from Youssef En-Nesyri; five minutes before the break, Simón was again in the way, this time when En-Nesyri shot out of the circle around the penalty area.

Seville, together with Barcelona and Real Madrid, is the club that scored the most this season in the last fifteen minutes (thirteen times) and Athletic did that twelve times. On the basis of the statistics, there was therefore another goal in the air and that was what Sevilla was looking for the most emphatically. Fourteen minutes before the end, Marcos Acuña ventured a long shot with his lesser right leg, which was turned by Simón. However, it was Athletic that took control of the game. In the last minute of the official playing time, the visitors countered very quickly. Oihan Sancet was able to steam on his own half and half of Sevilla after the attack of Sevilla and served the substitute Williams, who finished nicely in the top right corner.
