Thomas Delaney makes the switch from Borussia Dortmund to Sevilla, the clubs announced on Wednesday evening. The 29-year-old midfielder-cum-Danish international has signed a four-year contract. The Bundesliga club asked for €10 million for Delaney’s one-year contract but ultimately accepted €6 million and a small amount of variable bonuses.

Delaney was not in Marco Rose’s plans for this season and had already approved a move to southern Spain. The midfielder is now the sixth acquisition for trainer Julen Lopetegui after Marko Dmitrovic (Eibar), Erik Lamela (Tottenham Hotspur), Ludwig Augustinsson (Werder Bremen), Gonzalo Montiel (River Plate) and Rafa Mir (Wolverhampton Wanderers).

For Delaney, a period of 4.5 years in Germany is coming to an end. He made the switch from FC Copenhagen to Werder Bremen in January 2017. In the summer of 2018, the defensive midfielder left for Dortmund for €20 million, where he played a total of 88 official games and scored 4 goals.

“I am incredibly proud to have played for Dortmund,” Delaney emphasized via the official channels of those Borus. “It is one of the biggest clubs in the world and I will always miss the atmosphere in Signal Iduna Park, a very special place.”
