Sevilla did excellent business on Sunday afternoon in the battle for the top spots in LaLiga. The team of trainer Julen Lopetegui turned a 1-0 deficit on a visit to Real Sociedad into a 1-2 victory by hits by Fernando and Youssef En-Nesyri. Because of the victory, the gap with Barcelona, which is third, is only one point. Barcelona did play a game less, as did Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid, who have a lead of three and two points respectively. It meant the sixth game in a row without a defeat for Sevilla.

The game in Estadio Anoeta had barely started when Sociedad took the lead. Carlos Fernández was custom-served on the edge of the penalty area, controlling nicely and then cleverly firing the ball into the top left corner. However, Sevilla soon recovered from that early setback and was given opportunities via En-Nesyri and Lucas Ocampos to level the score within fifteen minutes, but En-Nesyri headed after a nice attack on the post and Ocampos saw his bet just over. Go the goal of Alejandro Remiro.

Halfway through the first half, Lopetegui’s team came alongside. Fernando was in the right place for a rebound and simply pushed the leather from close range into the left corner: 1-1. Sevilla took the initiative after the opening quarter and even took the lead shortly after the equalizer. Again, the visitors responded most attentively to a rebound, from which En-Nesyri managed to find the net this time. The striker shot the ball high and hard into the roof of the goal, signing for his sixteenth goal of the season.

After that same En-Nesyri hit the aluminum for the second time in the final phase of the first half, the best chances were also for Sevilla in the second half. Fernando, for example, aimed just next to the left post after a nice attack and Ocampos also did not have his sights on sharp. However, it was not as attractive as the first half. Lopetegui brought Luuk de Jong inside the lines in the final phase and saw how the striker hit Igor Zubeldia’s hand with a heel in an offside position, which meant that protests were not successful. The victory was no longer in danger.
