Kenneth Perez finds it incomprehensible that Denzel Dumfries currently has to train separately at PSV. According to the official reading, the 25-year-old wing defender will remain outside the selection of the Eindhoven team for the time being, because he does not want to disrupt the ‘current hierarchy and group dynamics’. Dumfries, like Donyell Malen, who left for Borussia Dortmund, was given the space to make a transfer. Perez mentions it in the program football talk by ESPN ‘amateurish’ that Dumfries cannot simply join the PSV selection.

“I read that Denzel Dumfries is not allowed to join the selection, because they only want players who are fully focused on PSV and are not involved in transfers,” Perez begins in the talk show. “I think that’s weird. Then you should keep seventy percent out of the selection, because so many players are busy with a transfer throughout the year. Because he happened to have done well and is in the explicit interest of a number of clubs, he cannot join the selection to train with.”

“Look, I still understand that he was not there against Galatasaray,” the analyst continues. Dumfries enjoyed a longer holiday due to his participation in the European Championship. “But that you can’t connect or be a kind of jammer. Seriously, I find that so amateurish. From the club. I understood that this comes from the club. Trainers think like this: ‘I only want players who are working on PSV, because we are creating something’. And then more of that nonsense. But yes, it is your captain from last year.”

“You don’t read that it’s almost complete, as was the case with Malen. I thought: here we go again with such a trainer who decides something like that”, Perez analyzes Dumfries’ situation. His name was recently linked to, among others, Internazionale and Everton, but that interest does not seem concrete at the moment. “Why can’t you just train? Maybe because you are afraid of injuries, but you are lagging behind. Just go play football. If you get injured, you get injured. That can happen in other ways too. That bullshit of: he should only be focused on PSV…”

“You want to be as strong as PSV as possible, don’t you? It’s one of your best players. The Champions League is important to financially connect with Ajax. I assume that the chance of reaching the Champions League with Dumfries is greater than without Dumfries,” emphasizes Perez. PSV first has to deal with FC Midtjylland in the third preliminary round, after which Benfica or Spartak Moscow may form the last hurdle towards the group stage of the Champions League.
