An early end to Salernitana in Serie A seems to be getting closer and closer. The current top-level player in Italy, Claudio Lotito, has an owner who also owns Lazio in the same league. That is against the rules of the Italian Football Association, forcing Lotito to sell Salernitana. A buyer has not yet been found, so the PhD student has again asked for a postponement.
When Salernitana was promoted directly from Serie B last season, Lotito knew he had to sell the club to get into Serie A. The entrepreneur placed the task of finding a new owner in the hands of the club board. The Italian news agency ANSA However, it publishes a statement from the club that states “that with less than 24 hours on the clock, there has not yet been a single offer that meets the necessary conditions for takeover.”
According to the same statement, Salernitana has since requested a postponement from the Italian Football Association. If the club does not get that, a ban from Serie A from December 31 will be the result. The duel with Lazio on January 16 will then no longer take place. It is as yet unclear what the consequences will be for Serie A of a possible relegation of Salernitana to the amateur class.
A real scenario is that all points obtained by and against the club of Frank Ribéry, among others, are wiped out. That would have far-reaching consequences for the relegation battle in the Serie A. Salernitana only managed to win against Genoa and Venezia: clubs that are respectively in nineteenth and sixteenth place in the ranking. Against Cagliari, the current number penultimate, there was a draw.
