Sergio Romero is about to continue his career at Venezia, know Sky Sports. The Argentine goalkeeper comes transfer-free from Manchester United and has to compete in Italy with former Eredivisionist Niki Mäenpää, who is currently the first choice under the bar with the PhD student. For Romero it means a return to Serie A, having previously been under contract with Sampdoria.

The goalkeeper was sold to Manchester United by Sampdoria in 2015, after he was loaned to AS Monaco in the interim. However, he did not become a permanent fixture in France as well as in England. Romero was the number one goalkeeper in his career only at AZ and Sampdoria. The goalie’s contract with United expired last summer, allowing Venezia to pick him up on a free transfer. Spezia was also after the Argentinian’s signature, but has to recognize his superior in Venezia.

At Venezia, Romero has to deal with a past in the Eredivisie with various players. This summer, Ridgeciano Haps and Tyronne Ebuehi moved to the Italian city, while Mäenpää and Dennis Johnsen are in their second season. Haps is still waiting for his official debut, Ebuehi alternates base places with substitutes. Johnsen can count on the full confidence of trainer Paolo Zanetti, just like Mäenpää.
