Senegal and Guinea shared the points on Friday afternoon. In an unamusing game in the second round of the Africa Cup, neither team was able to really impress and it remained 0-0. The draw puts both countries on four points in Group B, leaving the battle for a place in the knockout phase anything but decided.

Both Senegal and Guinea had turned their first African Cup game into a 1-0 victory. Winning would mean qualifying for the knockout stage. Guinea made the most of this in the opening phase. Despite not creating great chances, the country was mainly in the opponent’s half. After fifteen minutes of play, something finally happened at the Kouekong Stadium. Issiaga Sylla hurled the ball dangerously in front, but Pape Abou Cissé was able to clean up.

Senegal offered nothing in return and was lucky that it did not fall behind after half an hour. Debutant Ilaix Moriba offered Morgan Guilavogui a one-on-one with keeper Seny Dieng, but the attacker’s shot was painfully weak. It turned out to be the only real highlight of the first half, which steadily bled to death. Certainly the title favorite Senegal will not have been satisfied. Aliou Cissé’s team woke up a little after the break. Ten minutes into the journey, Saliou Ciss put the ball on Abdou Diallo’s head; the left-back of Paris Saint-Germain headed on the crossbar.

The sound of the vibrating woodwork was like a red rag to a bull for Senegal. Sadio Mané showed his class for the first time that afternoon. The Liverpool wing attacker offered Pape Sarr a good scoring opportunity, but the midfielder shot wide. Guinea had meanwhile been satisfied with a point, but Naby Keïta still tried to get a win out of the fire. The midfielder appealed for hands in the enemy sixteen-meter area, but got zero on the appeal. This made it the third game in the current Africa Cup edition that ended in 0-0.
