Schmidt would see Sangare as an essential part of Benfica’s new midfield, but faces stiff competition for the defensive midfielder’s signature.

Schmidt wants to control the selection at Benfica. Sangaré is an important pawn in this. The 24-year-old Ivorian exchanged Toulouse for PSV in 2020 for 9.5 million euros, but now seems to have to yield many times that. PSV takes into account the departure of the mainstay and wants to receive 25 to 30 million euros. Benfica is not the only club interested in Sangaré: it Eindhovens Dagblad already reported that the midfielder is in good shape at Newcastle United and Leicester City.

In addition to Sangaré, Schmidt also wants to remove Götze from his current employer.
