Youri Mulder returns to Schalke 04. The former attacker, who was active between 1993 and 2002 as a player for the relegant from the Bundesliga, joins the supervisory board of die Königsblauen. Mulder is Dirk Metz’s successor and the analyst has been unanimously nominated by the other members of Schalke’s supervisory board, as is clear from the statement from the club from Gelsenkirchen.

“We are going through a difficult time as a club and it is of the utmost importance that we add sporting competence to our supervisory board,” Metz said in a statement on Schalke’s website on Wednesday. “The appointment of Youri Mulder is also a positive signal to our supporters.” Dr. Jens Buchta, chairman of the supervisory board of Schalke, is just like Metz very pleased with the renewed cooperation with Mulder, who won the UEFA Cup in 1997 with the current number eighteen in the Bundesliga.

“I am very happy that Youri Mulder has agreed to take responsibility for Schalke 04 as a new board member after a few talks, albeit in a different way than before”, Buchta expresses his gratitude to Mulder. “With the former player, coach and sports commentator, we still have a very skilled person with football knowledge in house after Huub Stevens’ departure.” Stevens, who worked as a coach at Schalke for a total of four periods, announced his departure from the relegant in February. The former coach has been a member of Schalke’s supervisory board since mid-2018.
