SC Cambuur easily reached the second round of the KNVB Cup on Thursday evening. Without too many problems, the Ajax amateurs at Sportpark De Toekomst were set aside by the Leeuwarders with 0-5. Cambuur can prepare for the second cup round because of the victory; Saturday it will hear who will be the opponent in it.

No spectators of the visitors were present at the game. The municipality of Ouder-Amstel had ‘only’ informed Cambuur that three days in advance, a decision that the club did not agree with. Until the 23rd minute, there was little that could be noted in the books for the audience that was present. Calvin Mac-Intosch dribbled in at that moment and gave high to Jamie Jacobs, who returned to Filip Krastev. The Bulgarian’s attempt bounced over the line via Ajax keeper Ruben Zandwijken and defender Xian Flemming and the latter was credited with an own goal: 0-1.

Then the visitors left. After missing a big chance, it was Krastev who accidentally flipped a cross from Issa Kallon and headed in his own ‘assist’. Before halftime, the Frisians managed to put an end to all the hopes of the Amsterdammers. The head signaling the ball belonged to Roberts Uldrikis; the foot that tapped the ball into the second post of Erik Schouten. Cambuur trainer Henk de Jong considered the loot inside and decided to give David Sambissa, Mees Hoedemakers and Kallon a rest. For a moment the home team from the Derde Divisie seemed to want to make use of that on Saturday, but it soon got the lid on its nose again: Stefan Smal also worked the ball behind his own goalkeeper during a hostile corner.

The visitors had no intention of holding back and continued the rush towards the enemy target. After a good combination with Uldrikis, Nick Doodeman also put the 0-5 on the scoreboard, which would also become the final score. The Ajax-amateurs will be happy with it, as double digits were certainly a real possibility. It was a revenge for Cambuur in Amsterdam, where Ajax lost 9-0 earlier this season in the competition.
