SC Cambuur won the Eredivisie match with RKC Waalwijk on Sunday evening. In a soaking wet Mandemakers Stadium, the team of coach Henk de Jong triumphed 0-1 with a goal from Issa Kallon. Cambuur is in a handsome tenth place in the ranking due to the victory, while RKC has to share fourteenth place with FC Groningen.

After eight minutes, the visitors had the first big opportunity of the game from a penalty, after RKC defender Dario Van den Buijs floored right back Doke Schmidt with a tackle that was started too late. Goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen managed to turn Robin Maulun’s effort from eleven meters away from the right corner. Van den Buijs, who had a dislocated arm due to his foul, had to be replaced by Lars Nieuwpoort within fifteen minutes.

Halfway through the first half, RKC reported seriously for the first time. Michiel Kramer sent Saïd Bakari into the depths with a good pass in the course, after which he cut in and curled the ball past the right corner of Sonny Stevens’ goal. A minute later, RKC again had two good opportunities to take the lead. For example, a completely detached Juriën Gaari completed the goal within the penalty area and striker Jens Odgard shot the ball with a shovel over the wet grass just next to the left corner. Shortly afterwards, the Danish striker had another great opportunity. On a pass from Vurnon Anita in the penalty box, he again aimed just wide of the Frisian goal with the inside.

In the 37th minute, RKC thought they would get a penalty when Mees Hoedemakers seemed to take the ball off the line by hand. However, the Cambuur midfielder kept his hands neatly next to his body, so that referee Edwin van de Graaf decided to continue playing. After almost fifteen minutes in the second half, RKC had a good opportunity through a header from defender Melle Meulensteen. However, the bet was turned by goalkeeper Stevens. About five minutes later it was Cambuur that took the lead. After Odgard’s clumsy loss of the ball, substitute Nick Doodeman found teammate Kallon in the box, after which the attacker was able to finish from close range.

Fifteen minutes before the end, Odgard was still close to the equalizer for Joseph Oosting’s team. However, from a nice cross from the vowel side of Alexander Büttner, the attacker headed the ball on the crossbar. RKC continued in the final phase, but ultimately failed to score.
