Heracles Almelo and SC Cambuur balanced each other on Wednesday evening. The team from Almelo fell behind in their own home after an hour of play, but the team of coach Frank Wormuth drew the score fifteen minutes before the end: 1-1. Michael Breij and Orestis Kiomourtzoglou took care of the goal production. The Frisians enter the winter break in eighth place in the Eredivisie; Heracles is heading into the Christmas season in thirteenth position.

After a series of four defeats in a row, Heracles finally managed to secure the three points again last weekend. Wormuth decided not to change his starting eleven compared to the 4-2 victory over FC Groningen. At Cambuur, out of necessity, there was another name in the starting grid for the suspended Doke Schmidt: Jhondly van der Meer. The teams were very evenly matched in the first act, which featured two major opportunities.

The first serious chance was for Roberts Uldrikis. From a free kick by Robin Maulun, the striker sent the ball towards the crossing with his head, but goalkeeper Janis Blaswich made a nice save. Also in the chance on the other side it was the closing post that played the leading role. Kaj Sierhuisdacht on a pass from Noah Fadiga who finished 1-0; However, goalkeeper Sonny Stevens managed to keep his goal clean with a cat-like reflex. Scores were scored in the second half.

After less than an hour of play, Cambuur combined wildly around the hostile sixteen. In the end Nick Doodeman gave a decisive cross to Michael Breij, who shot in diagonally: 0-1. Afterwards, Heracles took matters into his own hands and the pressure was increased. Where Sierhuis and Sinan Bakis, in the 65th and 68th minute respectively, lacked fortune, Orestis Kiomourtzoglou managed to cash in on his chance ten minutes later. Once again Stevens seemed to keep his team going with an excellent save, but in the rebound he had to fail to answer the midfielder’s effort: 1-1. Although the Heracmen in particular were still emphatically looking for the winning goal, the score on the scoreboard did not change.
