Santiago Gimenez receives nice nomination

Feyenoord striker and Mexican international Santiago Gimenez has been nominated for Player of the Year in North and Central America. The award is presented by CONCACAF to the best player representing a country in North America, Central America or the Caribbean.

Gimenez, who earned his nomination for his winning goal at the Gold Cup, will face Christian Pulisic (AC Milan, United States), Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich, Canada), Jonathan David (Lille, Canada), Leon Bailey (Aston Villa, Jamaica) and Adalberto Carrasquilla (Houston Dynamo, Panama).

Lionel Messi to miss All-Star Game

Lionel Messi will not be in action on Wednesday for the MLS All Stars, who will face the stars from the Mexican Liga MX in Columbus. The 33-year-old midfielder, who recently announced his retirement from football, will gain experience as a coach at his old love in Catalonia. Thiago will normally stay on for the entire pre-season. Nick van der Velden to Castellón

AZ and CD Castellón have reached an agreement on Nick van der Velden. According to The Telegraph the Alkmaarders will receive tens of thousands of euros from the Spanish club. The 42-year-old coaching talent, who was in charge of AZ Under 16 last season, will be added to the staff of Dutch coach Dick Schreuder and his assistant Johan Plat.
