Youri Roulaux may have already played his last game as a professional footballer. The 22-year-old goalkeeper, who was active at Roda JC Kerkrade last season, will return to PSV and become a goalkeeper coach in the youth academy. He will remain ‘flying goalkeeper’ in Eindhoven for training sessions and ‘just maybe’ even more matches, for example at Jong PSV, it writes. Eindhovens Dagblad. In principle, however, his active career is coming to an end.

Roulaux played up to and including the E-pupils in the youth of RKVV Waalre and then went on to play for VV UNA. In 2013, Roulaux was included in the PSV youth academy and joined the B-juniors. He made his professional football debut at Jong PSV on 6 October 2017 and eventually played 22 official games for the U23 team. Roulaux never played for the first team, although he was third keeper a few times and regularly trained with the A-team. In 2020 his contract expired and Roulaux moved to Roda JC Kerkrade, for whom he played five games last season. His contract expired this summer.

“I received a wonderful offer from PSV to work at the academy for three years. I was already a goalkeeper coach at UNA and I can now do that here too,” Roulaux responds to his new position. If necessary, he could be deployed at Jong PSV. “I am currently training with that, because a number of keepers are gone due to circumstances. I can also train with PSV Under-18 or the A-selection, in case it is necessary. I stay as fit as possible for that.” Roulaux cannot rule out a short-lived return as goalkeeper.

“It could be, especially because there can sometimes be a hole due to injuries, corona or other causes,” he explains. “We will see how that works out. I simply cannot refuse this offer, because it is a very nice job and the clubs were not in line for me either. There were contacts, for example with FC Eindhoven and a Danish team.” Finally, Roulaux indicates that he does not yet know whether he also wants to get his papers in the long run to become head coach.
