Juventus lost points in Serie A on Sunday evening. On a visit to AS Roma, the team of trainer Andrea Pirlo did not win: 2-2. In the Stadio Olimpico, a defeat threatened when Adrien Rabiot was sent off with a red card in the second half. Cristiano Ronaldo, however, was twice accurate, saving a point for the Italian record champion.

Juventus played anything but great on Sunday evening and the 1-0 lead of AS Roma after half an hour of play was not undeserved. The ball hit the spot after Rabiot made hands in the penalty area. From eleven meters, Jordan Veretout made no mistake and signed for the opening goal in the Stadio Olimpico. Juventus tied the score before half time. Ronaldo entered the penalty area from the left flank and shot the ball into Lorenzo Pellegrini’s arm with a punt. Referee Marco Di Bello put the ball on the spot and that great opportunity was well spent on Ronaldo. The Portuguese made his second of the season.

While Juventus was still celebrating, the ball was already in the goal on the other side of the field. Immediately after the tying run, Veretout struck again. The rearguard of Juventus was completely separated. The organization was completely missing la Vecchia Signora and Roma took full advantage of this. On a pass from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, it was Veretout who ensured that Juventus were behind in the dressing room. In the second act there were opportunities back and forth. Edin Dzeko got rid of two Juventus defenders and then aimed for the post. Ronaldo tried with a half bicycle kick and shot right into the hands of Antonio Mirante.

With half an hour to go, Juventus had to continue with one man less. Rabiot played the ball too far ahead in midfield and committed a foul on Mkhitaryan. He got his second yellow card and was able to break in. Pirlo feared his first league defeat, but got hope when Dzeko killed a huge opportunity. On a pass from Davide Santon, the Bosnian striker had the 3-1 on his feet, but it was Wojciech Szczesny who was well lined up and prevented a greater deficit. Despite the fact that Juventus played with one man less, they continued to hunt for the equalizer. The attacking intentions eventually paid off.

Twenty minutes before time, Danilo passed the ball from the right flank. Ronaldo valued the cross and jumped higher than the Roma defenders. With a viewed bet, he headed the ball behind Mirante untenably. The relief was great at Juventus, which was not satisfied with a draw in Rome. In the final phase, Pirlo’s team explicitly sought the attack and Roma proved unable to create danger against the ten from Turin.
