Latest update:

Ronald Koeman is not positive about the physical condition of Teun Koopmeiners, the national coach indicates to the NOS. The Atalanta midfielder was supposed to have a starting spot in the friendly match against Iceland on Monday evening (4-0 win), but pulled out injured in the warm-up.

Things went wrong for Koopmeiners when shooting, Koeman indicates. “The first ball he hits hits his groin. We don't know yet what Koopmeiners is like. We will see that early tomorrow morning in the test results. But I have bad suspicions.”

Koeman also says that he is extremely disappointed with the left leg's injury, also for him personally. “If anyone deserves it, it's Teun.”

Koeman is also asked whether he thinks that the injuries to Frenkie de Jong and Koopmeiners are related to the 'overcrowded football calendar'. “I think so. I understand that Poland is also affected by Lewandowski. Yes, this will happen more often.” Robert Lewandowski had to be substituted after more than half an hour in the friendly match against Turkey.

Koopmeiners was replaced in the starting line-up by Jerdy Schouten, who also played ninety minutes in the match against Canada a few days earlier (4-0 win). Against Iceland, the PSV player was substituted for Georginio Wijnaldum after more than an hour.

Virgil van Dijk

Captain Virgil van Dijk also reacts disappointed to the failure of Koopmeiners and De Jong. “That is of course a shame, especially for them,” the Liverpool defender says in front of the camera ESPN.

“But of course it's also for us. It's something we're disappointed about, but hey, we have to move on and that's what we're going to do. We showed something today, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a shame.”

“It has not yet been confirmed to me that Teun is not coming, but it doesn't look good. It sucks,” Van Dijk concludes.
