Luis Enrique will be the new head coach of Paris Saint-Germain, Fabrizio Romano reports Friday morning. The Spaniard is about to sign a two-year contract. The 53-year-old coach was without an employer after the Spanish federation fired him as national coach after a disappointing World Cup. Enrique will be presented as soon as PSG has completed all formalities with the already departed Christophe Galtier.

The transfer soap at the Parc des Princes has been going on since the early elimination in the Champions League. The billion dollar ball is very important to the club management and that is why Galtier’s position was at stake. PSG’s current person with ultimate responsibility is close to a contract termination, but that has yet to be officially confirmed. Enrique then seems almost certain to become his successor.

Enrique started his coaching career with the second team of Barcelona, where he was taken away by AS Roma in 2011. In the Italian capital he achieved little success and threw in the towel after 41 games at the helm. He later joined Celta de Vigo before signing for Barcelona in 2014. In Catalonia, Enrique experienced the highlight of his coaching career: he won the treble including Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suárez in the ranks.

In 2019 he became a coach of the national team of Spain, where he retired after the failed World Cup in Qatar. The Spaniard and his men were eliminated by Morocco in the eighth finals. Since then, Enrique has been without a club. His name has been mentioned at Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Napoli, among others, but he prefers employment in Paris. The Spanish coach will sign for two years until the summer of 2025.
