Roger Schmidt hopes to be able to call on Carlos Vinicius in the Europa League against Real Sociedad on Thursday evening, he indicated on Wednesday afternoon during the press conference in the run-up to the meeting with the Spaniards. The striker hired from Benfica is still waiting for his first minutes, as the IND has not yet issued his work permit. If this still happens on Wednesday, the attacker will be part of the match selection for the first group match.

Schmidt further hinted that he will probably call on Maxi Romero. The Argentinian has almost recovered from his injury and has a chance to be back in the selection for the first time on Thursday evening. “He has been training with the group for several weeks now and has worked very hard,” said Schmidt. “It would be a reward for Maxi if I can include him in the match selection again. After a year he is of course not ready for ninety minutes, but he could play ten minutes or fifteen minutes.”

In addition to Romero, PSV will probably also have Ryan Thomas and Davy Pröpper at their disposal against Sociedad. Schmidt considers it unlikely that Ibrahim Sangaré will be part of the selection. The midfielder injured the Ivory Coast national team against Cameroon last week. Schmidt previously indicated that Sangaré will be out for two to three weeks. Thomas was missing last weekend against AZ due to illness, but normally returns to the selection.

For PSV, the Europa League adventure starts with a home game against Real Sociedad. The Spanish opponent has a flawless run-up and has won the last three matches in LaLiga. Only Barcelona (4-2) lost this season. The match in the Philips Stadium starts on Thursday at 9 p.m. and is led by Scottish arbitrator William Collum.
