Luciano Rodríguez scored again on Friday night for Uruguay Under 23 during a South American qualifying match against Argentina (3-3) for the Olympic Games. The twenty-year-old Liverpool Montevideo winger made it 2-1 from a rebound. After the match he spoke to the Uruguayan media about his failed transfer to Feyenoord.

“I wanted to go to Feyenoord to further develop myself,” Rodríguez said about the transfer that did not happen this winter. “It was not me, but the club I play for.” Rodríguez was also accurate against Peru Under 23 (3-0) last Tuesday.

Summer transfer?
Friday, a day after Deadline Day, reported 1908.nl that Feyenoord is also fully committed to the arrival of Rodríguez after the winter transfer period. The right leg is still in Montevideo until mid-2027, but Feyenoord wants to bring him to De Kuip next summer. “Feyenoord is still very close to a deal, which now requires a little more patience.”

“Feyenoord is still concrete for Rodríguez. The club will remain so as long as the negotiation process is ongoing,” said 1908.nl. “According to South American media, River Plate has dropped out for the time being, while Rodríguez's personal agreement with the Rotterdam team remains in place.”

The Rotterdam medium even wrote that something could happen in the short term. “In the case of Rodriguez, the transfer could be completed sooner than expected, for example in a few days or a few weeks.” Transfer market estimates Rodriguez's market value at around 4.5 million euros, but Liverpool Montevideo wants more for the winger.

The possible transfer of the right winger is a long-term one. Already in mid-January, Uruguay first reported Rotterdam's interest in Rodríguez, who was supposed to provide Feyenoord with new impetus on the flanks.

With Rodríguez, trainer Arne Slot may be able to add his desired 'difference maker' to Feyenoord's selection next summer. So far, the Uruguayan has made 34 appearances for Liverpool Montevideo, scoring 9 goals and providing 6 assists. Last year, Rodríguez became national champion with his current employer. Next summer he hopes to be active at the Olympic Games in Paris.
