Robin van Persie will be assistant coach at Feyenoord Under-16 next season, it reports Algemeen Dagblad. The 37-year-old former attacker, who is currently employed as a part-time striker coach of the first team, will join the youth team with head coach Brian Pinas.

Van Persie will also be taking care of his own son Shaqueel van Persie in the Under-16s of Feyenoord. The fourteen-year-old attacker is seen as one of the biggest talents in the youth division of the club and will therefore be moved from the Under-15 next season. Shaqueel van Persie has been playing at Feyenoord since 2017, which took him over from Fenerbahçe.

Robin van Persie told last summer about a lesson he had taught his son about top football. Van Persie’s son remained on the bench in a lost match against Ajax’s peers and sat sulking in his father’s car afterwards. “He was complaining, about others, the trainer, et cetera,” said Van Persie earlier in The High Performance Podcast.

Van Persie used the moment to teach his son a lesson in life. Then I said, ‘Shaquil, you sound like a loser when you talk like that. You blame everyone, but I don’t hear about yourself. Winners take control and look at themselves, they see where they can improve themselves. ask yourself, do you want to be a winner, or do you want to be a loser? It doesn’t matter to me because I’m your dad. All I have is to get you ready for life when you’re twenty “I love you anyway. It doesn’t matter to me whether you make it as a footballer or not. But you say this is your passion, so you have to take control of your life and stop complaining.” “
