River Plate and Boca Juniors drew 1-1 against each other on Sunday evening (Dutch time). Just after halftime, Pablo Solari opened the score on behalf of River, before Cristian Medina determined the final score twenty minutes before the end. River is at the top of Group A of the Argentine Primera División after seven matches, while Boca is seventh in Group B after just as many matches. The best numbers four from both groups qualify for the play-offs for the championship at the end of the season.
Particularities
In a – of course – sold out Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires, River was the dominant party in the opening phase, although the really serious opportunities did not materialize for a long time. In the tough match, Kevin Zenon provided the first danger on behalf of Boca, but the 22-year-old midfielder saw his effort fly over veteran Franco Armani's goal.
The biggest opportunity for River came from Solari, who shot against the post after a wonderful assumption on the edge of sixteen. Esequiel Barco also seemed to be on his way to the lead for River, except that his steps were not quite right.
Shortly after halftime, River took the lead. Solari escaped the attention of Boca and initially shot against former AZ goalie Sergio Romero, after which the rebound was prey for the son of former professional footballer Victor Solari. Romero still touched the ball, but that was not enough to prevent the deficit: 1-0.

However, Boca would still have a point left in the match. Lautaro Blanco continued excellently on the left and laid perfectly back to Medina, who outwitted Armani with a dry slider: 1-1. Substitute Miguel Borja could have given River the win with a header. However, Romero managed to make a good save from close range, after which the now 37-year-old goalie also saved in the short corner on the rebound of another substitute, AgustÃn Sant'Anna. Thus, the 1-1 score remained on the scoreboard.
