Johan Derksen has few positive words for Michael Valkanis. The Greek coach has been an assistant coach in Amsterdam since the appointment of John van 't Schip at Ajax, but Derksen thinks it is 'ridiculous' that Valkanis is 'walking around' at Ajax.

The day after the defeat that Ajax suffered against AZ in Alkmaar (2-0), the former professional was surprised by the fact that the Dutch media 'made such a fuss about the fact that Ajax lost'. “This Ajax can lose to any normal opponent in the Eredivisie, so you shouldn't be surprised by that.”

“Ajax has a very mediocre team,” Derksen continues, “and a treasure of a trainer who has not improved a single player anywhere he has worked. He is a trainer who depends on the quality of his players.”

On Monday, Willem van Hanegem wrote in his column on behalf of it Algemeen Dagblad that he suspects that Valkanis has a considerable influence in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

“It is of course ridiculous that Ajax allows such a Greek to suddenly walk around there,” Derksen responds to the suggestion of the curve. “What does a Greek know about Dutch football, Dutch football culture, Ajax culture and how to train players?”

Presenter Wilfred Genee jokingly mentions that Ajax previously appointed a German director (Sven Mislintat, ed.) who 'knew everything about it'. “And you see how it turned out,” responds the moustache.

“They will have to reorganize for another ten years before the old Ajax is back again. And that also costs a fortune,” Derksen concludes.
