Rick Karsdorp has decided to stay at AS Roma this season, so report Goal and Football International. The 25-year-old rightback seemed on his way to a rental period in Genoa, but wants to stay in the Italian capital after a positive conversation with the club management of Roma.

AS Roma recently came into the hands of American billionaire Dan Friedkin, who paid 591 million euros for the club in Serie A. The wealthy businessman recently expressed his confidence in Karsdorp in a personal conversation. The triple Dutch national also feels supported by coach Paulo Fonseca, who rewarded him with a base place in the first three games of the preparation.

All this made Karsdorp decide to cancel Genoa and stay with Roma. The wingman is keen to repay his Italian employer for the sixteen million euros that were transferred to Feyenoord for him in 2017. Heavy knee injuries meant that Karsdorp only got twelve league games for Roma in his first two seasons. Last year he was leased to Feyenoord, where he seemed to regain his form. As a result of the corona crisis, however, he only made eleven appearances in the Eredivisie.

Goal reports that the decision of Karsdorp has consequences for Mattia De Sciglio. The wing defender of Juventus was about to leave for AS Roma. Both clubs came to an agreement earlier, but Roma canceled the transfer now that Karsdorp remains active in the Stadio Olimpico. Roma said goodbye to a competitor for Karsdorp with Alessandro Florenzi this summer. The former captain of the club has been leased to Paris Saint-Germain.
