Remko Pasveer is happy with the narrow victory at the opening of the season with Ajax. The forty-year-old goalkeeper admits that he started awkwardly in the second preliminary round of the Europa League against FK Vojvodina (1-0), but afterwards he mainly cherishes the result and the clean sheet.

Ajax did not play convincingly, but won thanks to a late header from Branco van den Boomen. “We have had good phases, but also less good ones,” Pasveer told Ziggo Sport“I think that's inherent in starting a new season and a new coach, new ideas. Physically we have to grow during the season. Of course, it's still quite early in the preparation.”

Pasveer is currently the first keeper under Francesco Farioli. “On the one hand I am of course surprised, on the other hand I also know what to do and not to do, and how I am involved with the team. I am of course happy that I am playing, that is what you do it for. If I am at a club, I also want to do everything to play.”

Ajax did not have it easy against Vojvodina. “The start was a bit restless”, says Pasveer, who is told by reporter Sam van Royen that this was also due to the keeper. Pasveer started with two wrong passes and escaped with a fright. “Agreed. It took some getting used to. It should not happen. All in all, we kept a clean sheet.”

Pasveer doesn't know if he will remain first choice. “It's up to the coach, but I'm doing my best for Ajax. What did the coach say? Nothing. We didn't talk about that. I just have to make sure I stay sharp.”

Last season, Pasveer openly complained about the lack of top sports mentality at the current Ajax. The goalkeeper, who seems to be taking a swipe at his previous coaches John van 't Schip and Maurice Steijn, thinks the situation is different this summer. “A lot has changed, but that is also due to the staff. I think we have a good staff, who bring a lot of energy and are very present at training. They are demanding.”

Pasveer is preferred over Diant Ramaj, but his relationship with the Kosovar-German goalkeeper has not changed. “I don't notice anything about him. He just trains normally and is just normal towards me. I did that when I was on the bench. This is also the fate of a goalkeeper.”
