Vinícius Júnior receives heartwarming support from Real Madrid. The players of the Royal came onto the field on Wednesday evening prior to the home game against Real Valladolid in a shirt with the star attacker’s name and back number on it. Vinícius, who fell victim to racism against Valencia (0-1 loss), cannot take action due to an injury, but is present in the Santiago Bernabéu.
On Sunday in Mestalla, Vinicius was constantly berated by part of the Valencia public for ‘mono‘ (monkey). The Brazilian received no support from the authorities or the referee: the match continued. In the final phase, Vinícius was violently provoked by the players of Valencia and grabbed by the throat. Real Madrid’s left winger then dealt a blow, after which he had to leave the field with a red card.

There was a lot of commotion worldwide following the incidents. On Tuesday, the red card was already dismissed by the Spanish Football Association. Support for Vinícius will also come from the Real Madrid club management on Wednesday. In their own stadium, which is still partly being renovated, a banner was hung with the message: We are all Vinícius, enough is enough. The same text appeared on a banner carried onto the field by the players.

The RFEF committee decided on Tuesday to fine Valencia 45,000 euros. Part of the stadium must also remain empty for five home games. Valencia calls that punishment “unfair and disproportionate.” Los Che considers it unfair that the punishment was imposed without being able to defend itself. “We are fully cooperating with the police and condemn what happened in our stadium,” the club said.
