Daniel Carvajal will no longer play for Real Madrid this season, according to Spanish media. The right back has sustained a muscle injury. The Royal has confirmed the injury through official channels, but as usual makes no statements about the length of the recovery period. Onda Cero and ASH report that Carvajal is no longer available this season. On the other hand, there is the imminent return of Sergio Ramos, Federico Valverde and Ferland Mendy.

Carvajal was forced to be replaced by Álvaro Odriozola in the semi-final of the Champions League against Chelsea (1-1) on Tuesday evening. The injury of the right back is yet another setback for Zinedine Zidane this season. The French coach has been struggling with injuries within his selection all season and sees one defender after another drop out. Carvajal also had to miss out on most of the season. The right foot played in only 15 of the 45 games. Due to his new injury, it is even questionable whether he will make it to the European Championship with Spain.

The absence of Carvajal poses a significant problem for Zidane, as the trainer also does not have access to Lucas Vázquez. He fell into the win Clasico against Barcelona (2-1) with an injury to the knee and is only expected back at the end of me. The playing of Marcelo in the return against Chelsea is also highly uncertain. The left back has been designated by the Spanish government to assist in the Madrid elections next Tuesday. Real will do everything to get the Brazilian in London on time, but the question is whether that will work.

Against all injuries is the return of Mendy and Valverde. The latter is on the way back from the corona virus, while Mendy is also in the final phase of his recovery. Ramos may be able to make minutes again next weekend when Real takes on Osasuna. For the duel with Chelsea, Zidane is expected to return to a four-man defense, with Mendy possibly taking Marcelo’s place and Valverde having to strengthen midfield. The Uruguayan midfielder can also be used as a right back, as it turned out earlier this season.

At the forefront, Zidane has the fewest problems when it comes to injuries. Should the French teacher opt for a 4-4-2 formation, the only question is who will accompany Karim Benzema in the attack line. Eden Hazard, Vinícius Júnior, Marco Asensio and Rodrygo are eligible. Vinicius seems to have an advantage, but his performance against Chelsea has according to ASH Raising doubts in Zidane, who is considering giving Hazard a chance against his former employer, should he be one hundred percent fit.
