Chances are that Sergio Ramos will end his career at Real Madrid. Spanish media, including the reliable radio station Cadena SER, assure Wednesday morning that negotiations between the defender and the top club are in the final phase. Monday reported ASH yet Real Madrid did not want to go to extremes to keep the 34-year-old Spain international.

According to the latest reports, Ramos and Real Madrid have an agreement in principle on a new contract until mid-2023. The Spanish top club first wants to go no further than a commitment until the summer of 2022, with an option for another contract year. It is an unwritten rule within Real Madrid to extend contracts of footballers aged thirty or older for a maximum of one season.

Only for Cristiano Ronaldo was an exception in the past: the club top scorer of all time got three more seasons at the age of 31. Cadena SER says Ramos will sign a contract until the summer of 2023 if some, minimal, financial details are finalized. Real Madrid is expected to announce the contract extension of the captain before the end of the calendar year.

Ramos is far from finished with Spain: ‘And I will also take the next penalty’

Cadena SER assures that talks about a new contract have only taken place between President Florentino Pérez and Ramos himself. Brother and agent René Ramos kept himself out of the interview and general manager José Ángel Sánchez, who usually conducts the talks, was also not considered necessary. “We remain calm and of course I am optimistic”, father José Maria Ramos said earlier Marca. “We have every confidence that everything will be fine.”

Ramos made the switch from Seville to Real Madrid in mid-2005 for 27 million euros and has since won no fewer than 22 main prizes: four times the Champions League, four World Cups for club teams, three European Super Cups, five national titles, twice the Copa del Rey and four Spanish Super Cups. . With 660 duels for Real Madrid, he only has to tolerate Manolo Sanchís (710), Iker Casillas (725) and Raúl (741).
