According to reports from kicker Yvon Mvogo is on the eve of an early return to RB Leipzig. The German goalkeeper is rented by PSV for two years until the summer of 2022, but is withdrawn from the Bundesliga earlier than planned by the club. Leipzig would like to house Mvogo elsewhere due to the arrival of Joël Drommel and the approaching competition, or so it sounds. Rik Elfrink reports on behalf of the Eindhovens Dagblad that PSV is not yet aware of this.

The reporting from Germany is remarkable, as PSV coach Roger Schmidt said in May that he would count on Mvogo after the summer. The goalkeeper has been rented from Leipzig for two seasons, but can be recalled in the meantime due to a clause in the contract. The fact that an early departure from Mvogo is not taken into account in Eindhoven is partly due to the fact that first keeper Péter Gulácsi at Leipzig has already extended his contract until mid-2025.

“It would be surprising if Leipzig would bring him back now,” Schmidt said in May Eindhovens Dagblad. “They wanted the clause in case their current first goalkeeper left. Now that that’s no longer the case, the situation has changed. I don’t know how long the Leipzig clause will be in effect, but I think normally we would go with Yvon and Joël Drommel going into the season. We have a long season coming up and the competition is good for both of them.”

If Mvogo stays in Eindhoven, he will have to compete with Drommel, who has been taken over by PSV from FC Twente. Lars Unnerstall went the opposite way and was taken over from PSV by Twente. Last season Mvogo was regarded as a fixed value within Schmidt’s team and kept everything with the exception of the TOTO KNVB Cup. Unnerstall got the chance in the cup tournament. At the moment, Mvogo is participating in the European Championship with Switzerland, where Yann Sommer is preferred as the first goalkeeper.
