Quinten Timber will leave Ajax behind for FC Utrecht at the end of the season, the Domstedelingen announce via the official channels. The nineteen-year-old center-back, the twin brother of Jurriën Timber, was in possession of an expiring bond in Amsterdam. Despite the fact that Ajax wanted to extend his contract, Timber has chosen to make the transfer to FC Utrecht.

The midfielder, who can also play as a right back, signs a three-year contract in his hometown, which will bind him to FC Utrecht until mid-2024. Timber had, according to The Telegraph also a choice of different (foreign clubs), but with FC Utrecht opts for ‘its sporting development and for a familiar environment’. “I started looking at myself and considered which step I want to take,” says Timber on the FC Utrecht website.

“From a sporting point of view, I want to make a nice step. FC Utrecht is a fantastic club, with fantastic fans. I really like the ambitions they have and would like to contribute to them ”, he continues. “I am a midfielder who conquers a lot of balls and loves to have the ball. I am fast, powerful and have good football skills. And the rest? You will see that next year! I love this city and this club. I am looking forward to it. Ever since I was a kid I have been coming here to watch games with the neighbors. Now I can play football here: that’s wonderful. ”

“A real boy from Utrecht, who has always maintained a bond with the city and the club”, explains technical director Jordy Zuidam about Timber’s arrival. “An Utrecht who has stood here in the stands and actually still has his entire career ahead of him. That he consciously chooses us at this stage of his career, with his potential, and has faith in our plans: we are very happy with that. He is an incredibly talented player, with drive and someone who puts a lot of energy into matches. It is very nice to see how proud the family is that the circle is now complete for Quinten. ”

Timber was taken away from DVSU by Feyenoord in 2008, together with his brother Jurriën. After having played in the youth academy of the team from Rotterdam for six years, the twin brothers made the switch to Ajax in 2014. Where Jurriën is experiencing his breakthrough in the main force of the team from Amsterdam this season as center defender and right back, Quinten was still waiting for his debut. He eventually made forty appearances for Young Ajax, in which he scored three goals and seven assists. After Anastasios Douvikas, who comes over from the Greek Volos, Timber is the second addition to FC Utrecht.
