Quinten Timber probably has a serious concussion, trainer Arne Slot tells the camera ESPN. The midfielder went to the ground just before the end of Feyenoord – AZ (2-0) when he received a ball in the face, after which he was taken off the field on a stretcher.

“Timber has a concussion and he is still in a separate room,” says Slot in conversation with Hans Kraay junior. “He is conscious, but he does not know where he is now or what the result is. It's a serious concussion.”

“There is currently no reason to fear anything worse than a concussion. I expect that's it, by the way. When he went in, we of course immediately wanted to know whether he was conscious, even though they said next to the stretcher that he was conscious,” said Slot.

It is a big setback for Feyenoord, which also lost Gernot Trauner in the first half. The Austrian is struggling with a hamstring injury, Slot confirms. Thomas van den Belt is also struggling with a hamstring injury and cannot be deployed for the time being.

Furthermore, the Rotterdam team will have to make do without Santiago Gimenez in the semi-finals of the cup. The striker was booked in the match against AZ and is not allowed to play against SC Cambuur, NEC or the winner of the match between FC Groningen and Fortuna Sittard.

Slot knows that the Eredivisie match against Sparta Rotterdam and the match against AS Roma in the Europa League play-offs come too early for the duo.

More extensive investigations must show whether the injured players can be used for the return in Rome, which will be played on February 22, and the top match against PSV on March 3.
