Lucas Gardenier signed his first professional contract with Feyenoord on Tuesday, the club announced on Tuesday evening. The fifteen-year-old defender put his scribble under a three-year commitment in De Kuip on Tuesday afternoon and is therefore linked to Feyenoord until mid-2025. He is part of the Under 16, which is led by trainers Brian Pinas and Robin van Persie.

Gardenier started his football career with the amateurs of RKAVV from Leidschendam and has been playing at Feyenoord Academy since he was seven. From the 2014-2015 season at Varkenoord, he silently walked through all youth teams, Feyenoord writes in the press release. Rini Coolen, Head of Academy at Feyenoord, describes the youngster as a ‘left-footed player who can be used in several positions’.

“A very strong point in his game is that he has the ability to postpone some decisions and therefore often make the right choices. He also shows every day that he wants to become a better player at Feyenoord,” Coolen analyzes. Gardenier himself calls the signing of his first contract in De Kuip a ‘very nice moment’. “Of course I also hope to make my debut for Feyenoord 1 here one day. Until then, I will first have to develop myself as well as possible at Feyenoord Academy.”
