FC Groningen immediately takes over Emmanuel Matuta from PSV, it reports General Newspaper. The nineteen-year-old Belgian midfielder will sign a four-and-a-half-year contract with the current number thirteen in the Eredivisie, which will link him to Groningen until the summer of 2026. It means that after almost eight years, Matuta’s period in Eindhoven will come to an end.

PSV removed Matuta from the youth academy of KV Mechelen in the summer of 2014. The defensive midfielder, who can also function as a center defender, made his debut in professional football on behalf of Jong PSV last season. Matuta played a total of 48 games on behalf of the U23 team trained by Ruud van Nistelrooij in the Kitchen Champion Division, in which he provided 1 goal and 1 assist. He did not make his debut in the main squad, although he was once in the selection during the Europa League match with Granada last season.

In the first half of the season, Matuta could not always count on a base place at Jong PSV. This season he has played seventeen games, eight of which as a starting player. Despite the fact that his contract still ran until the summer of 2023, the people of Eindhoven now let the youth international of Belgium leave for FC Groningen immediately. No transfer fee will be paid for Matuta.
