Tottenham Hotspur is not yet ready for the transfer market after the expected arrival of Cristian Romero. According to The Evening Standard the Premier League club is looking for a ‘creative player’ and both Noni Madueke of PSV and Mikkel Damsgaard of Sampdoria are closely followed. Madueke comes from Tottenham’s youth academy and shines in the service of PSV in the first weeks of the new season.

Tottenham will probably complete the arrival of Romero on Thursday. The central defender is being taken over from Atalanta for an amount of fifty million euros plus five million in potential bonuses. He would become Tottenham’s third summer signing after left winger Bryan Gil (for 25 million euros excluding bonuses) and goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini (on loan from Atalanta).

However, the ‘Harry Kane’ file hangs like a dark cloud over the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Kane is looking to leave for Manchester City and could bring in an astronomical transfer fee, as Tottenham are sticking to an asking price of £175million, which could be partly invested in a new attacker. Damsgaard would be valued at fifty million euros after his participation in the European Championship with Denmark.

The 21-year-old Sampdoria player, who can be used as a left winger, center striker or attacking midfielder, scored in the group match against Russia (1-4 win) and in the lost semi-final against England (2-1 after extra time). His goal against England came from a free kick. Fifty million euros is currently ‘probably too much for Tottenham’ unless some ‘redundant players leave’. The possible transfer of Kane would of course also free up the necessary financial space for chairman Daniel Levy.

How much Madueke should cost is still the question; at the moment “he is worth more every day in the eyes of PSV”, as he scored a lot in the preparation and in matches against Galatasaray and FC Midtjylland in the preliminary rounds of the Champions League. Moreover, PSV does not see the departure of a new star player after the transfer of Donyell Malen to Borussia Dortmund, and the Eredivisionist can therefore sit high in the tree. Madueke, who is also followed by Leeds United, Crystal Palace, Southampton and Bayern Munich, came over from Tottenham’s academy in 2018, captaining the Under-16s and also playing for the Under-18s. The Englishman is under contract with PSV for another three years.
