The return of Luuk de Jong must be ‘the biggest hit’ of PSV’s transfer summer, writes The Telegraph Tuesday evening. The people from Eindhoven plan to ‘do everything in their power’ to bring back De Jong later in the transfer window, if the opportunity presents itself. The striker of Seville may face competition in Spain from Serdar Azmoun, who is in the picture to come over from Zenit Saint Petersburg, and could therefore opt for a transfer.

This season, De Jong already lost the competition with club top scorer Youssef En-Nesyri. The arrival of Azmoun would make the situation of the the Dutch International even more complicated. De Jong was used fourteen times as a basic player over the entire season, but that happened only four times since March. Moreover, De Jong was only on the field for ninety minutes in LaLiga. The thirty-year-old attacker has a contract with Sevilla until mid-2023. He came over from PSV in the summer of 2019 for a maximum amount of fifteen million euros. It is not known how De Jong himself views a return to the Philips Stadium.

Moreover, a return of Jetro Willems is conceivable. The wing defender left Eintracht Frankfurt free of transfer and offered himself to PSV. He really wants to go back to Eindhoven. PSV already has the transfer-free 1. FSV Mainz 05-left back Philipp Mwene (27) in mind to act as a stand-in behind Philipp Max, which raises the question whether PSV will respond to Willems’ advances. Earlier on Tuesday it became clear that PSV is about to take over central defender André Ramalho for 2.5 million euros from Red Bull Salzburg.

The Telegraph writes that PSV must also take into account a departure of Mohamed Ihattaren. If Mark van Bommel is appointed as head coach of VfL Wolfsburg, he would like to bring Ihattaren to his new club. Van Bommel worked with Ihattaren in the period when the attacking midfielder of PSV asserted himself as one of the greatest talents in the Dutch fields. In the past year Ihattaren under Roger Schmidt barely came to the fore.
