PSV and the management of Armando Obispo are still discussing a new contract, it writes Eindhovens Dagblad Saturday. According to the regional newspaper, there is not yet a full agreement between the two parties, but it is expected that everything will be okay if the club and player add water to the wine. The 22-year-old Obispo’s contract with PSV will expire next summer.

PSV concluded an agreement with Obispo at the end of 2017 until mid-2021, with the right to unilaterally extend the contract for another season. That happened in the spring. In the meantime, the defender has won the trust of trainer Roger Schmidt. He appeared in all PSV Eredivisie matches this season, as well as last Thursday against Real Sociedad (2-2) in the group stage of the Europa League tournament.

Aad de Mos called it an advantage for Obispo this week that he is left-footed. “He is the best Dutch defender in the Dutch league,” the former coach assured the newspaper. “There is no better defender than Obispo in the Dutch league; Stefa de Vrij, Matthijs de Ligt and Virgil van Dijk play abroad. It is a complete defender. What he has learned are those dream moments. He is very concentrated and has learned wise lessons from his rental at Vitesse.”

Obispo was trained at PSV and played 26 matches for Vitesse in the 2019/20 season on a rental basis. Last season he played a supporting role under Schmidt, but this year he appeared in the starting lineup for the first four matches alongside Brazilian André Ramalho. PSV will also try to extend the contracts with Shurandy Sambo and Fredrik Oppegard in the coming period.
