Érick Gutiérrez is feeling good at PSV. The Mexican midfielder has been contracted in Eindhoven since 2018, but does not rule out closing the door in the Philips Stadium next season. “If there are offers, I look at them calmly with my agent and it is also important what PSV wants,” said Gutiérrez.

Gutiérrez is no longer an undisputed basic player for PSV this season. Under Ruud van Nistelrooij, the counter currently stands at 37 official duels. Only nineteen times he actually started the kick-off. Nevertheless, Gutiérrez is happy that he extended his contract until mid-2025 last year. “This city means a lot to me and not just because of football,” he told it Eindhovens Dagblad. “My children are now three and four years old, born here and completely used to the environment. It is forever the place where my greatest happiness took the first steps in life.”

“When you play here, you want to play as many minutes as possible and that was not always possible this season,” says Gutiérrez. “At the same time, I also see that with ‘Sanga’ (Ibrahim Sangaré, ed.) and Joey (Veerman, ed.) there are very good players in the team. It is sometimes difficult for the trainer to make choices and you have to accept them.” Last summer, the inspector was sympathetic to a new collaboration with Roger Schmidt, who left PSV for Benfica as a trainer. The Mexican international eventually felt more in favor of a longer stay in Eindhoven.

In addition to Benfica, clubs from England, Spain and Germany also showed interest in Gutiérrez in the summer of 2022. There is a chance that he will leave PSV after this season. “I will be here five years later and the club is in my heart, forever. If there are offers, I look at them calmly with my agent and it is also important what PSV wants. First I want to experience another six wonderful weeks on the field.”
