PSV takes over Nathan Markelo from Everton, the Eindhoven club will officially announce on Wednesday. The 22-year-old central right-back will initially join the PSV promise team, which is trained by Ruud van Nistelrooij. For Markelo it is a return to the Dutch fields, because last season the young mandekker was leased by Everton to FC Twente. It concerns a contract in Eindhoven until next summer.

Markelo came to thirteen matches in the shirt of Twente in the 2020/21 season. As an Everton player, the brand new PSV acquisition has never had playing time in the main squad in recent years. Markelo did make it to 59 games in the Under 23 team of the Toffees. The versatile defender was picked up by Everton four years ago from the youth academy of FC Volendam.

Markelo poses on Wednesday with the head of training Ernst Faber with the PSV shirt, after both parties have signed the contract. It is hoped in Eindhoven to be able to take advantage of the versatility of the summer acquisition. “Markelo mainly plays as a right back, but can also play centrally in the defense and in the midfield,” according to the press statement regarding the arrival of the defender.
