The PSV supporters present on Thursday evening were not happy with Roger Schmidt’s choices during the Europa League match against AS Monaco (0-0). The entrance of Maximiliano Romero was sung from the branch, who came in only in the last minute of the official playing time. PSV struggled throughout the game to create opportunities against the compact operating Monaco.

‘Roger, wake up’, the PSV supporters chanted ten minutes before time, as did ‘we want to see Maxi’, or Romero. However, he did not come in until the 89th minute as a replacement for Eran Zahavi. Earlier in the game, Schmidt made two other substitutions, although they were born out of necessity. Shortly before the break, Yorbe Vertessen was replaced by Bruma due to physical complaints; after 57 minutes, Carlos Vinícius was injured and Ritsu Doan made his appearance.

‘Swap, switch, switch’, the supporters continued to sing in the final phase. In the end, they only got to see Romero briefly. Schmidt opted for a surprising arrangement in the principality. Erick Gutiérrez got a starting spot for the first time this season, starting in midfield; Olivier Boscagli moved back to defense from midfield, leaving Armando Obispo out of the starting eleven. The trainer was unable to have Mario Götze (ill), Noni Madueke (hamstring), Ryan Thomas (knee), Cody Gakpo (ankle) and Davy Pröpper (ankle).
