PSV reached the play-offs of the Champions League on Tuesday evening. Roger Schmidt’s team won against FC Midtjylland thanks to a nice goal from Bruma in the final seconds with 0-1, after the home game was won 3-0 last week. For example, PSV obtained extra points for the coefficient in the final phase of the match. If Benfica does not give away its 0-2 lead from the first leg against Spartak Moscow, then the Portuguese will be PSV’s next opponent.

The game opened with a shot into the short corner by Eran Zahavi, which was easily turned away by Jonas Lössl. Midtjylland then had the upper hand slightly and got the first big chance of the game. A cross from the right was headed just past the far post by Junior Brumado. After that, Evander had an ingenious stab at Joel Andersson, but PSV goalkeeper Joël Drommel was quick enough off the line to avert the danger. Drommel then also hit a dangerous turning cross from Awer Mabil ?.

Early in the game, Madueke had startled PSV by sitting down on the grass, but the right attacker was able to continue playing. At the end of the first half, two great opportunities followed for the Eindhoven team. Zahavi made a quick counterattack past Rasmus Nicolaisen, but couldn’t give enough power to his shot to surprise Lössl. A few minutes later, Cody Gakpo had an even greater chance of shooting, but the wing striker shot the Danish goalkeeper with left and right.

PSV also had opportunities to take a lead in the second half. Madueke narrowly missed the ball in a busy box. Gakpo was launched by Zahavi, but shot eye to eye with Lössl just wide. In between, Drommel made a difficult save on a free kick by Evander. Then Anders Dreyer appeared dangerously behind the PSV defense, but the right striker of FC Midtjylland aimed into the side net. In the final phase of the match, substitute Marco van Ginkel thought he would score on behalf of PSV with a placed shot. Again, however, Lössl was an obstacle for the Eredivisionist. The match seemed over, until substitute Bruma dribbled in from the left deep in injury time and surprised Lössl with a shot into the far corner: 0-1.
