Quincy Promes is suspected of involvement in drug trafficking and participation in a criminal organization. This is the reason he was intercepted by the police, according to investigative sources The Telegraph

According to the investigative sources, Promes, together with family members, would have invested money in a batch of cocaine. The Telegraph reports that more than four thousand kilos of hard drugs were intercepted by the Belgian police in April 2020 in the port of Antwerp. The Public Prosecution Service announced on Wednesday that Promes is still being prosecuted for the attempted murder of his cousin.

Initially, the Spartak Moscow attacker was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault, but now attempted murder has been added. There is a heavier penalty for this than for attempted manslaughter, because there is premeditation. Promes has not yet received a subpoena. On Tuesday it became clear that the victim thought the initial charges against Promes too light.

Promes’ phone was tapped because he was in the picture with the police because of involvement in drug trafficking. Relatives of the Spartak Moscow attacker are currently incarcerated for drug trafficking and money laundering in the same case in which Promes is a suspect. The Telegraph reports that Promes would video call his cousin V., who is currently in prison in Zaanstad, on a weekly basis. An arrest of the 50-time international of the Dutch national team is currently being complicated by his residence in Moscow.

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service confirmed that a so-called Article 12 procedure has been started, because the victim found the charges against Promes too light. However, Yehudi Moszkowicz, the victim’s lawyer, wanted Promes to be prosecuted for attempted murder. As a result, the lawsuit seemed to be postponed, but the addition to the indictment has prevented a delay and the case can probably be heard on March 31.

Promes was arrested in November 2020, after which he spent two days in jail. The reason for the arrest was a stabbing during a family party in Abcoude, a few months earlier. There, Promes allegedly stabbed his cousin in the knee, resulting in serious injuries for the victim. In July 2021 it became clear that the Public Prosecution Service wanted to prosecute Promes.

Promes himself denied any involvement, but on Tuesday evening Nieuwsuur published details from the criminal file. It can be read that the attacker has confessed in several conversations with his family that he wanted to stab his cousin to death in 2020. The Spartak Moscow attacker made the confession in telephone conversations, unaware at the time that he was being wiretapped by the police.
