Quincy Promes and Jorrit Hendrix are experiencing a difficult season with Spartak Moscow, the current number nine in the Russian league. The two Dutchmen fail to impress and that leads to criticism from Ilya Gerkus, the former chairman of Lokomotiv Moscow.

Promes made the switch from Ajax to Spartak Moscow in February of this year for 8.5 million euros. Last season, he made 15 appearances and 5 goals in all competitions. This football vintage has three goals after eight matches. “We expected something different from him,” Gerkus said in an interview with Sports Express.

“He was not bought to only score two goals a year. We also expect assists from him, but he does not see his teammates. It soon became clear that Promes is not a player who helps you to fight for the national title,” said Gerkus about the fifty-time the Dutch international, who is working on his second term at the Russian top club.

Gerkus discusses several purchases from Spartak Moscow in the interview, including Jorrit Hendrix. The controlling midfielder came over from PSV in January of this year for 500,000 euros. In Moscow Hendrix has to settle for a supporting role. Gerkus is therefore not impressed by the game of the Dutchman. “Hendrix is weaker than the minimum level,” he says.
