PSV has qualified for the eighth final of the TOTO KNVB Cup without too much effort. Roger Schmidt’s team did not make a great impression against Fortuna Sittard, but won 2-0 due to a double hit by Ritsu Doan. The Japanese scored in both halves, while Fortuna failed to put the lead in serious jeopardy.

Compared to the league match against NEC (1-2 win) on Sunday, Roger Schmidt made several changes to his line-up. Phillipp Mwene was preferred over right back to Jordan Teze, while Armando Obispo played in the heart of the defence, taking the place of Olivier Boscagli. In the left back position Philipp Max played instead of Mauro Júnior. On the midriff, Ibrahim Sangaré no longer formed a block with Marco van Ginkel, but with Érick Gutiérrez. Bruma and Cody Gakpo made way for Yorbe Vertessen and Ritsu Doan. Colleague trainer Sjors Ultee, however, tinkered much more with his line-up: only Yanick van Osch and Roel Janssen were left standing after the 0-1 win over PEC Zwolle.

PSV led 1-0 at halftime with a hit by Doan in minute 28. The attacker isolated the penalty area from the right wing, looked for the way towards the goal and saw Van Osch go to the grass too early, forcing him into the right corner. could finish. Furthermore, PSV did not succeed in imposing the will on Fortuna. The home team got away a few times. In minute 34, Joël Drommel let the ball slip out of his hands after a spinning free kick by Arianit Ferati, but to his relief, Doan was able to clear the ball before Roel Janssen got in. Drommel released the ball for about twenty seconds after a shot by Ryan Johansson. In the second instance, he narrowly prevented Bassala Sambou from taking advantage.

In the final phase of the first half, Drommel had a great save on a header by Richie Musaba. At the start of the second half, Cody Gakpo and Carlos Vinícius made their entrance at PSV, but Doan also scored the second goal of the game. After more than an hour, he placed the ball from the edge of the penalty area in the left corner, although Van Osch was still at the ball. However, PSV was unable to impress in the second half either and the number of opportunities was limited. Bruma came close to 3-0, but Fortuna cleared the ball just before the line. A bet by Ibrahim Sangaré from the turn hit the post in stoppage time.
