Jergé Hoefdraad has not died, the Amsterdam Police Unit announced via Twitter. The police reported Monday that the 35-year-old former professional football player had died as a result of a shooting in Amsterdam-Zuidoost on Sunday morning. Now the police are apologizing to Hoefdraad’s family via Twitter and it is reported that he is in hospital in ‘very critical condition’.

“To our regret, the message was incorrectly reported this afternoon of the death of the 35-year-old victim of the shooting incident on Stekkenbergweg. He is in a very critical condition in hospital. We deeply regret this and offer our apologies to his family,” the Amsterdam Police Unit wrote on Twitter. A police spokesperson called it opposite The Telegraph ‘annoying’. “We have rectified it and apologize.” Telstar and Almere City, among others, ask via Twitter to think of Hoefdraad and his family.

In the night from Saturday to Sunday, Hoefdraad was present at a party in a business building on Stekkenbergweg, where he was shot in the head around 06:00. On images circulating on social media, two explosions can be heard, after which great panic broke out. Nothing is officially known about what exactly happened, but according to De Telegraaf, the police assume that Hoefdraad wanted to calm a quarrel. Hoof wire is said to have undergone a ‘very complicated operation’ in the hospital and is therefore still in a ‘very critical condition’. The police are according to The Telegraph the main suspect on the trail, but has not yet been able to arrest him and calls on the shooter to report as soon as possible.

Hoefdraad played in the youth of Ajax between 1996 and 2004. He then moved to RKC Waalwijk and made his debut for that club in 2007. He went on to play for Almere City, SC Telstar and SC Cambuur; In his career, Hoefdraad came to 153 official duels for Almere, 61 for Telstar and 50 for Cambuur, including 8 in the Eredivisie.
